Spring has almost sprung on the Bishop’s Meadow with the first catkins dangling from the hazel trees along the banks of the River Wey.

We recently underwent some extensive work on the Meadows which involved a safety inspection of a line of poplars along the northern boundary of Bishops Meadow.

One of the first tasks for us to tackle was the abundant vegetation from the bottom and one side of the Tudor Ditch. The Ditch gets most of its water from the Pengilly Road area surface drain run off. When the weather has been dry and hot like much of this year, it's no wonder that when the rains do come, the vegetation jumps with joy and gets growing!

Over the past months, the meadows has seen a increase in the number of people needing the space and freedom that it offers for dog walking, exercise, recreation and as a place to meet friends or relax.

The Trust organises for the grass to be cut annually and there are a number of benefits for doing so.

A walk around the meadows is always a great pleasure and a favourite time of day to take a stroll is in the early evening when the working day is over.
